SDGs workshop in Okinawa(沖縄)

A bit outdated report.  I (Naoya Abe ) was in Okinawa last July to make a presentation to a group of high school students about SDGs.This opportunity was arranged by Prof. Yuto Kitamura at the University of Tokyo, who is a theme leader of  POST 2015 project (PL: Prof. Norichika Kanie at Keio University.)  Here is the report about this event in Japanese on the project website.

I was so happy and encouraged to have seen the positive, honest, and promising high school students there.  Their perspectives were sometime unique and reminded me of what I could have thought when I was young.

SDGs are certainly seriously relevant for those who are young now.  They are the ones who would benefit or suffer from the future state of the society and environment. After all, those young high school students will determine the fate and path of/toward the sustainable development.   That’s why our responsibility for the next generation is significant and important.

After the workshop, I came back to Tokyo with somewhat positive thinking about the future. I thank all the students there!

For this opportunity, I am grateful to Prof. Kitamura, who was the main organizer of this event and invited me to this occasion.  I was fortunate with a good accompany of Prof. Masaru Yarime from UT, who made an excellent and stimulus presentation to the students, Ms. Eri Yamazaki and Ms. Eriko Yagi from Prof. Kitamura’s group.

Lastly but not least, I was sincerely  impressed with the passionate attitude toward the better and ideal education by the Principal Dr. Masaichiro Nachiro at Okinawa Shogaku.  Our conversation was limited but that was enough to understand how dedicated Dr. Nachiro is for his profession and scholarship.
