Attending the international conference “Towards YR2030 and beyond”, 6th of September in 2012, Tokyo

Hi every one. Thanks for reading this post. This is Byambatuya Dagva (Tuya), M2 student. Here I would like to share some of the information and impressions that I got by attending the international symposium “Towards YR2030 and Beyond” held in 6th of Sept, Tokyo organized by Japan Renewable Energy Foundation with the support of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, Ministry of the Environment of Japan, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The speakers were from Japan of course, Germany, Denmark, China, Mongolia, Russia and Korea to share ideas, experiences and discuss about their future potential cooperation in the power sector specifically using renewables. Well, I think the symposium was quite intensive and very interesting covering various global issues and caring for the future generation which is the reason why the symposium was named so.

Masayoshi son, a businessman and the founder and current chief executive officer of Softbank, developed a vision and founded the Japan Renewable Energy Foundation. According to Mr. Son, it is necessary to strengthen and enhance power transmission grid in Japan. He says, “Once we have the infrastructure for the transmission, even wind alone should be able to fulfill the needs of Japan. In addition to that, we have bio, solar, and other forms of renewables so that we have sufficient resources.”

In general, the conference was about very new way of development of Japanese energy supply system and ideas for enabling lower cost and price for Japanese society and less dependence on imported fossil fuels and uranium. A little more specifically, it was about to increase green energy consumptions, to reduce electricity cost and mitigate monopoly in Japan in the power sector and to avoid nuclear power production which is very risky for the future generation. In order to do so, it is important to make electricity market competitive to prevent from complications and extremely high price by utilizing renewables not only produced in Japan but also produced and transported from some other Asian neighboring regions and countries being very rich in renewable resources and other promising potentials. Neutral transmission system operator can make it possible by giving equal chance for all competitors to deliver their electricity. If there is a monopoly, no one will be interested in going into the power generation business because they will not be able to compete against it. Even the government agrees with the concept toward green development and thinks this is the best approach that politicians must follow. In addition awareness of each individual citizen is something that is really wanted. Japan wants to show the world that they have changed the direction. These are the main messages from the conference as I understand.

Without too many words, actually all the materials and lively recorded videos are publically available at the Japan Renewable Energy Foundation website. I think they are pretty much interesting. If anyone interests, below is the link for it.
