Last week, Abe Research Group hold a workshop on Solid Waste Management (SWM) in Vietnam in collaboration with the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) of Japan and the Institute of Science for Environmental Management (ISEM)of the Vietnam Environment Administration(VEA).
The event came to an end successfully and we are pleased to report the workshop here briefly.
The title of the event was “Participatory Workshop on Solid Waste Management in Hanoi – Searching for an Effective Action Plan and Strategic Development of Necessary Capacities －” and be held from 30th November to 1st December.
Our research group have organized workshop for the very first time and faced many challenges to make the job done. Thanks to collaborators in Japan (NIES) and in Vietnam (ISEM), we believe that we could provide an opportunity to the participants of the workshop even if there were challenges in language and cultural differences between Japan and Vietnam. Main participants were relatively young Vietnamese stakeholders of SWM practices of Hanoi city and we tried to have a active discussions by participatory approach using various tools.
The workshop was held near the lake in Ba Vi national park, where it takes one hour drive from Hanoi.
The Hotel: We had active discussion spending one and half day in total.

Our research group is going to analyze the result of the workshop fully and try to contribute to the better practice of Solid Waste Management in Hanoi and Vietnam.
