CONGRATULATIONS 2020 SPRING GRADUATES

On March 26, 2020, it was the commencement day at Tokyo Tech but this year, the typical scenes for this special and memorable occasion on the campus were limited due to the preventive measures for the spread of Covid-19. I really felt sorry for the graduating students but that was necessary for the safety for everyone.

Big applause goes to Kuriyama-san, who finally completed his doctoral study while he had worked during his doctoral studentship with Tokyo Tech. Congratulations, Dr. Kuriyama. Congratulations go to Kanda-san, Kokubu-san, Ko-san, Mitani-san, who completed their master degree studies. I am especially glad with the graduation of Ko-san. The same goes to Matsuda-san, who finished his bachelor degree study. I really wish all of you good luck.

The current situation reminds me of how our society is inter-dependent with each other at global, national, local, organizational and even individual levels. We have talked about social distancing a lot these days and we also need to think about “the distance” to the nature, which should be equivalent to the degree of respect to the nature or environment.

Medical doctors, nurses, national and local government officers and other many people are now working so hard under seriously difficult and uncertain situation due to Covid-19. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to them.
