THE 7TH GENERAL SEMINAR,3Q,DECEMBER 1st, 2020

Our 7th seminar was held on December 1st by ZOOM. 11 people attended this seminar including Abe sensei and 9 other fellow lab members. I Peljee (Pere) was the MC of the seminar. In the first part of the seminar Augustin made presentation about his research progress. Last part of the meeting was bonding session and we had a meaningful conversation in this session.

Presentation

Augustin’s research is about Japan’s Renewable Energy Scenario. He is looking into status of electricity and Renewables in Japan. He explained about how percentage for each source of electricity generation has been changing until now and how goal has been set for these sources by 2030. Japan has set a goal to reduce CO2 emissions by 26% compared to 2013 level and decrease fossil fuels to 56%, while increasing nuclear to 20%, renewables to 24% respectively. He also mentioned that Japan is focusing on improving energy efficiency and reducing energy import to become more self-sufficient. He explained about energy Interconnection of East West and Hokkaido area. One interesting thing for me was that Hokkaido has a high wind power potential but to harvest wind potential, interconnection is not sufficient now. Kinki area has high electricity demand, so good transmission and interconnection are needed, which he said that he will study further. In Q&A session, Natasha asked how will he consider Japan’s Zero emission goal by 2050 in his research, and Augustin said he will check any update relating to the announcement and his study. Abe sensei gave many advices to Augustin.

Bonding session

Our topic was “What do you think are the 5 most beautiful things in the world? and Why?”

Bonding session’s example:  from left, sunset and sunlight shining through trees. These photos were taken by me (Pere).

Defining beauty is almost impossible and meaning of beautiful is different for each of us. I was hoping we can know more about each other through the answers for this question. It turned out this was hard to answer for almost all members since it can be anything, physical items, natural phenomena, places or our feelings. Some members chose beautiful places they have been, or they wish to go. Some members had common answers like friends and family, while some answers were very unique and reflected the persons perception of beauty. Abe sensei also told that whom do you with makes that certain moment or scenery even more beautiful. And I couldn’t agree more. We shared our answers and spend quality time together. Here is our answer for this bonging session’s topic.
