Seminar report written by: Purevsuren Norovsambuu
Introduction
On the 24th of November, our lab members held it is a weekly seminar from 4:15 PM. The seminar consisted of two parts; presentation and bonding session. I, Purevsuren Norovsambuu(Nosa), was the MC of the seminar and the following 9 members attended the seminar:
- Naoya Abe (sensei)
- Nosa
- Natasha
- Li
- Peljee
- Mami
- Masaya
- Taro
- Yoshiteru
Presentation
The presenters were Natasha and Tomohiro but Tomohiro-san could not make it to the seminar due to health problems. Only Natasha presented her research progress and plan. The summary of the presentation is below:
Natasha’s research topic is Indonesia’s interprovincial evaluation of resource use efficiency of water-energy-food nexus. Due to economic development, the nation has been experiencing massive population growth which demands even more resources. Natasha’s purpose of this study is to improve resource use efficiency. To simply explain this idea is to achieve greatest possible outcome with the least possible resource usage. Water, food, and energy sectors are interconnected and in order to improve these sectors, we need jointly improve their efficiency. Natasha will evaluate resource efficiency in the regions of Indonesia using DEA tool. After evaluation, she will find inefficient regions and calculate how to improve its efficiency.
After the presentation, there was a Question and Answer session. People who asked questions were: Peljee, Taro, Nosa, Abe sensei, Yoshiteru, and Masaya. Questions were regarding the contents people did not understand from the presentation. Natasha and Abe-sensei explained the answers in detail. At the end of the first session, Abe sensei asked what data sites we use to collect the data. Li and Masaya-san use the data from government sites. Abe-sensei suggested that we will further improve our laboratory page with data and statistics. And following sites were mentioned in the chat:
https://freedomhouse.org/explore-the-map?type=fiw&year=2020
http://www.ide.titech.ac.jp/~nabe/wp/data-and-statistics/
At the end of the first session, we all typed the keyword related to Natasha’s presentation. Keywords were:
Nosa: Natasha – resource efficiency
Peljee : Eco-efficiency and nexus approach
Masaya : Resource-use efficiency
Yoshiteru : Sustainability by efficiency
Taro : Improve Indonesia from the aspects of three resources efficiency
Li: Water food energy nexus and welfare.
Mami : Sustainability and efficiency
Bonding Session
In the bonding session, each of us answered the question “What is one thing/(things) we would never guess about you?”. It was very interesting to hear each answer from our lab members.
Nosa: I started the session with my answers, I can play kendama, solve Rubiks cube in less than one minute, and used to play a traditional Mongolian musical instrument called “Yochin”.
Taro : He can sleep wherever and whenever he wants and one time he slept 18 hours straight. However, he never late or oversleep for the class or events.
Masaya : He knows every toilet location in Tokyo Disneyland resort and he also can move his ears.
Yoshiteru : He participated in a Guinness book record which was high fiving with 300 people in one minute.
Natasha: She loves to swim and she introduced us to swimsuits for hijab-wearing women.
Peljee : She was born 4 kilograms.
Mami : She is very flexible and can stand on a balance ball and split her legs more than 180 degrees.
Li : He can make cookies and he will bring his cookies to the lab.
Abe-sensei: He once sang a musical song in front of many people when he was working at a public agency (by the order of his boss then!).
In the conclusion, our seminar ended at 6:20 PM and we learned a lot from Natasha’s presentation. It was very interesting to learn about the secret abilities and skills
