Midterm report about PSDT2011 in Thailand

Hello everyone,

This is Morizumi (M1). Since August 5, I’ve been attending PSDT 2011 which is the workshop about the planning for sustainable development in Bang Krachao, Thailand. Today I would like to report some activities of mine in Thailand.

From Aug 4, I’ve been staying in guest house in Kasetsart University (KU) with my roommate who came from Hong Kong (see Pic1.)

For few days, we’ve taken classes about the concept of eco-tourism and basic information about Bang Krachao at Facility of Architecture in KU.

The other day, we took the class related with Contingent Valuation Method (CVM) which can estimate willingness to pay and the method to estimate the value of urban green space in Bangkok was presented by the teacher from the department of economics in KU. In additional to classes, group works along with themes which are decided by each group have been held as follows.

[Main theme] How to improve ecotourism in Bang Krachao

・local people perspective ・tourists perspective ・Natural resources perspective ・Governments, Organizations and market communication perspective

It was decided that I would belong to the group about government, organizations and market communication perspective, which is said that it is the most difficult part by Dr. Lambert who is the coach of PSDT2011・・・

From this weekend, we are going to hold field works in Bang Krachao and prepare the final presentation with home staying.

<<Sightseeing >>

Last week, my friends and I walked around Grand palace, temples, shopping mall and downtown and enjoyed sightseeing! Thanks to Thai students, we succeeded to take a taxi smoothly and could visit many places.

(Pic2.) Temples in Grand Palace, Gilded temples!

We went Chatuchak weekend market in Bangkok. As you can understand from its name, this market is held only every weekend. It was more crowded with visitors than I thought. Mian-kun, one of the undergraduate students in Titech, was impressed with the cheapness of the clothes and purchased many T-shirts. He said Thai products are much cheaper than Japanese. For example, we usually spend 30 brt for lunch and 100 brt for dinner. (1 brt is equal to about 3 yen !)

(Pic3.) We also went massage salon in Khaosun road at night(see Pic4.).

This is just a picture of the salon and not so funny, but It seemed that Dutch students took a picture when three boys (including me) slept comfortably with enjoying the oil massage. After receiving the picture, I would like to show it to you!

During home staying, I will not be able to connect to Internet, so next updating of my report will be after the arrival in Japan.

Regards,

Toshiya Morizumi
