The fall semester has started and many students came back to the campus. I really hope that everyone had her/his own good time.
During the summer break (for students, faculty members actually work all the time without some off days), I (Naoya Abe) visited some places in August and September this year.
First, when I took some off days, I went to Ithaca, NY, US, where Cornell University is located and where I studied. Cornell was and still is a very special place, where I got various skills and experiences. The study then was actually quite tough and harsh but such experience still sometimes encouraged me when I need to work on something difficult.
The travel to Ithaca was such memorable because this time I went there with my family. Moreover I was so fortunate to have met my two advisers respectively. The time, conversation and food that I shared with them were so gorgeous and so happy moment. I owe them for good. It was in August.

By the way, when you hear about New York, you may quickly imagine very high buildings (i.e. skyscrapers) in Manhattan but that kind of area is actually limited in New York State. Here is a scene in rural New York.

In September, I visited Bandung, Indonesiafor some formal mission and that was my first visit there. I was quite impressed when I met highly many motivated young people. Our (their?) future is bright!
When I was in Bandung, in the evening, there was a small reunion with Cornell friends, who are Dr. Yuniati Azzaino at ITB and Dr. Zevi Azzaino, who is working for the Government of Indonesia. That was another gorgeous time.

Finally, a week later after Bandung visit, I once again visited Indonesia, this time Surabaya, for my own research. All activities, which were the following-up of the previous works, were such nice and learning occasions as before. For this end, I am and have been grateful for the wonderful cooperation and support from the collaborators from University of Surabaya (UBAYA.) Dr. Ambiyah Abdullah, our new doctoral researcher, had played very significant role this time and she was great! Excellent job, Ambiyah-san.
