I found an interesting insurance service for commercial-purposed solar energy projects, which just started on March 21st, 2011. The provider, Energi, is an Delaware (in America) based insurance company.
The name of the service is “Solar Installation Performance Warranty”.

The point is… the warranty is not insuring each component of the systems but the systems’ “performance”. There are a few similar warranty services having been provided by very small local installation firms in Japan. This type of warranty could be a main countermeasure to manage risk of solar photovoltaic systems in the world!
(Added on 19th June)
P.S. I noticed that Mitsubishi Electric has already provided performance warranty. They warrant 70% of performance of residential PV systems.(The following website is in Japanese)
